Tips

¨      All of the printed material should tie together esthetically.  For example, matching boxed sets, coordinating colors with the event color scheme or some semblance of order, well thought out and cohesiveness.

¨      Whether you do it yourself or have it professionally done, make sure you print out one sample of the finished product for final proofing.  This will allow you to catch design or formatting mistakes.

¨      If you do it yourself, have another person who knows you well and is familiar with the event proof it after you.  Planning an event is stressful and can keep you from catching mistakes you otherwise would, during a less stressful time in your life.

¨      Allow yourself and all parties involved plenty of lead time to make room for the unexpected, because no matter how well you plan, there is always an “unexpected”.

¨      Keep a timeline and progress chart of each aspect of the event so that you do not leave anything out.

¨      Don’t try to do everything yourself.  It’s better to budget for a professional and spend a little extra money up front than to try to do something you are unfamiliar with and waste time and money trying to figure it out or worse yet, doing it completely wrong.

¨      If at all possible, get one or two of the people you rely on the most to help you do a rough run through, prior to the actual rehearsal to iron out the kinks.  This way, you are familiar enough with the flow of the event to ensure everyone else knows their role, marks, etc…  Also, the rough run through keeps you from getting the entire wedding party, for example, bogged down in the esthetics of the venue.

¨      Most of all, always remember to show people how much you appreciate them by respecting them.  A nice bride’s maid gift or acknowledgment with a toast at the reception can never repair a relationship fractured by hurtful, condescending words.
